The Yamamoto Soundcraft Corporation is the HiFi branch of a Japanese  machinery company.  The large technical possibilities the mother company has, together with Mr. Yamamoto's deep knowledge about  materials, and his passion for vintage electronics has resulted in this wonderful  and unique line of products.  The special situation here is,  that  the Yamamoto Soundcraft company does not have to use mechanical parts from other companies.  Whatever they need, they make it themself, just the way they want it.  Resulting from this is the pristine quality level of the used components. 

Until 2003,  the company  was mainly active in Japan only. With the coming of the internet, and growing interest in tube amplifiers, international sales just "happened" to the Yamamoto company.  Until then, the company was mainly known in the Japanese-only tube scene. (which is a scene for itself !)  But...the internet changed the way of working.   Here is just a selection of the articles and awards,  and several more are in the pipeline.

Hello JAC,

Only now I give you my opinion of the Yamamoto A-08S because without at least 200 hours of burn-in and equipped with Sylvania 45's for whom it was optimized, I should not give my opinion. A highly recognized critic has told that the A-08S the way it was assembled  was made with the surgeon precision, of witch I disagree, the surgeons commit a lot of mistakes..

To make justice to Mr. Yamamoto, it is with the precision and the art of a jeweler"High Jewelry". In my evaluation to a correct justice, I have utilized the Telefunken RGN 1064. The sound becomes more opened, precise and focused than with the 80. What I can say after all this forty years of listening to the most types of different amp's with different topologies, some of them custom made by me.

All of this transcends those triviality's of timbre, definition, openness, spaciousness, blah, blah, .... It's the the way of how the musicians make us coming to our ears, in a relaxed kind of way, in their full geniality of their performance. This yes! It's the true essence of music. If an amplifier had soul , this is the one. Imagine what this is for me that I'm a true Mozart's passionate.

Wir sollten das hier mal lobend erwähnen, für den Fall das jemanden es noch nicht wußte: HiFi und Records zu den (ich glaube drei) Deutschen HiFi Zeitschriften wo noch wirklich unabhängig getested wird.  Das heisst: wir bekamen den Test kostenlos,  aus Interesse an unseren Produkten.  Damit Sie darüber lesen können, und nicht aus Interesse an unseren Anzeigen. Das ist wirklich eine besondere Ausname in dieser Branche. Das heißt, wenn Sie in ein bestimmtes Magazin im Rotationsverfahren immer die gleiche Tonabnehmer getestet bekommen, und "schon wieder" ein Verstärker vom Vertrieb XY, dann heißt dass noch lange nicht, dass diese Schreiber nicht wissen, dass es Yamamoto gibt. Eher heißt es, dass wir da nicht inserieren.

The Choice of materials

The Japanese Audiophile scene uses only original materials of highest quality and originality, going allways back to the root of the products.  There is no interest in new inventions, but always the search  for originality comes first.  Japanese tube enthusiasts like to improve products,  but never loose the philosophy of  the original design.  This is how they are. You will find  this quality attitude in all  traditional Japanese companies like Yamamoto Soundcraft is one. They have a word for this, called Kai-Zen.  It means so much as great dreams, small steps.

Mr. Yamamoto's  music preference is jazz recordings, and he is a very critical listener.  His personal experience is,  only the  finest, natural  materials can be used to reproduce the sound in the original way, as it was recorded.   For this, no weak elements can be tolerated in the entire sound chain.   Only in this way,  a true reproduction of the original music  will be made possible, with finest details occurring that can not be heard otherwise. This search for originality and perfect materials implicates not only the use of tubes.  It  means every  part of the product is subject to a careful selection process.   Also the use of hard wood and other natural materials plays an important role in the complete design. As a general  result of an  "all tube" sound chain,  it  is possible to  enjoy the music much longer as with transistor equipment, without getting tired from it.  This observation has been made many times, and is confirmed by many Yamamoto customers all over the world.

Here are some examples of the quality of the used materials  that makes YAMAMOTO products so different. Below, the amplifier of the Type A08 is used to demonstrate this, but all other products use basic materials of very high standard.

Only finest Shashih structured wood is used to build the amplifier chassis.  This is a cherry wood,  which has been treated with resin,  to give it mechanical properties which is comparable to Bakelite.  This is giving great strength to the wood, and  makes it possible to do very fine CNC tooling on it.  However,  the surface of the wood stays fully natural with this process!  The deeper parts of the wood can now be CNC tooled, and have properties like Bakelite.  Note the cooling vents of the tube sockets, that are machined in the wood with finest detail, and have greatest mechanical stability still.  During longer time, the shape of this wood will not change, although it gets warm from the tubes and transformers.  This is possible , using the properties of the Shashih process, of treating wood. 
The tube sockets are machined from solid Teflon, and the contacts are CNC made from thick gold plated phosfor-Bronze, gold plated or silver plated.  All electrical parts of the sockets are nickel free and oxygen free for lowest contact noise.  These sockets are for sales as products too,  and the contacts can be taken out of the socket for contact force adjustment, before soldering the wires to the sockets. 
Output Transformers, Choke and Mains transformers are C-Core.   These are the core of each tube amplifier.  Power supply capacitors are a vintage type, chassis mount, and even the choke is a C-Core type.  The C-Core mains transformer is of the more expensive air gapped type. It can withstand a not fully balanced Mains voltage, thus fully avoiding any mechanical hum noise from the transformer chassis.   This  eliminates the need for an external mains conditioner.  The C-Core sound transformers will guarantee lowest leakage inductance,  and lowest transformer loss is resulting from this.    This is very important, since with small tubes, even no small fraction of the power should be lost in the transformer. 
The wooden feet some amplifiers stand on,  are African black Ebony wood.  This is virtually unavailable today, and Mr. Yamamoto's NOS supplies are used for this.  The Ebony wood is used for building musical instruments like the oboe,  or the black keys of some expensive pianos.  This fine musical material was though to be the right choice for the amplifiers. 
As electronic components,  the  DALE resistors are used for their excellent tone quality. These are made in conformity with the MIL spec. of USA.   All capacitors in the sound path are polypropylene types, because of their superior electrical and acoustical qualities.  The responsiveness to the signal is better than with electrolytic capacitors, and the distortion rate is the lowest possible.

Mr. Yamamoto always presented the Audio scene surprisingly beautifull and well-designed HiFi Equipment, made of finest base materials. The accesories Mr. Yamamoto designs are genius products, and improve the performance of existing equipment.  Here,  Mr. Yamamoto demonstrates a test record player for the Japanese magazine "Analog".   Please don't ask.... it is not for sale.  This was only a study, showing the excellent sonic capabilities of the special treated hard wood as used for all products.  This specially treated cherry wood is called Shashi, and has properties like Ebony wood.  So it is the secret tip for Audio products,  and of course the #1 choice for the HiFi equipment made by Yamamoto Soundcraft.
