The never ending confusing story of "Winged C" and "S" logo

There are two factories that make Svetlana tubes, even today as we write those lines in 2008.

Print out this sentence and nail it on the wall: There is the" Reflector" factory, in the Ukraine, useing the S-LOGO, and there is the "Svetalana" company in Petersburg, using the C-LOGO. Also called winged C.

They used to be partners, but now are competitors. To make a long story short, they agreed that the S-LOGO tubes are not be imported any more to Europe. So we don't get any new supply of S-Logo, of KT88, 6550 and EL34. We're selling off old stock until it's gone.

After that we need to worry about buying C-Logo tubes. However at this moment the sales channel for C-LOGO is a bit strange looking to us, saying it carefully. We do have some NOS C-logo EF86 and 5U4G, from the 1970...1980.

This is a classical tube, nobody wanted them, and you could buy them per hunderd easily in the 1990's from Russia. Shipment cost was more than the tube cost, I remember that. However, these days are gone. This tube is harded to get now, people started to estimate it's great quality. Sovtek doesn't offer it any more as a re-branded version, I think that's just because they can't buy cheap NOS any more. NOS prices have gone up, and I think old stocks are drying up now. Note the beautiful contruction inside with eight filaments, and not just four filaments as USA made 5U4G.

The Russians have so called Kyrilian letters, of which some are the same as in our alphabet, some are swapped with our alphabet, and some are unique. So the Kyrillain designation on this tube is 5u3c. So here we go.... "u" means "Z" and "c" means "S". So we translate this in 5Z3-S. In tube land "S" means special socket, and that's what it is. So it is a 5Z3 with an octal socket... meaning it is a 5U4G. Anyway, it's a 5U4G coke bottle tube.
