Optimum Triode Load

Hi!

Several years back I got in hold of a paper that described what optimum load for a triode was.

This feature was called "Maximum Power Available".

During my recent move I however lost that paper and I have been tryng real hard to derive that certain equation but have not come to another answer other than RL=rp.

Which I know is false when it comes to considerations of maximum plate dissipation and high voltage at the same time.

Yes, it is true that impedance matching normally means highest power transfer efficiency, but I leaned from this paper that optmum tube load actually is RL=2rp.

I wish very much to be able to derive and understand this equation. Can anybody help me?

you could try the Western Electric (full version) 300B datasheet (on 4.tubes.com) there are many tables in there with power output, and the formulas they used.

Hi,
Maybe this will be helpful: open "The Valve Wizard" in Google or others. There you will find a chapter "Common Gain Stage". Go to page 22, chapter 1.16 "The Golden Ratio".
This may answer your question.
